A Call to Action

Coordinated International Protests in Many Cities on September 30, 2005

Dear Activists for Haiti,

The coup regime in Haiti - backed to the hilt by the US, the UN, France and Canada - continues its bloody assault on the poor majority, targeting especially leaders and supporters of the Lavalas grassroots democracy movement.

Now Fondasyon Trant Septanm, a Haitian organization supporting victims of the repression in Haiti, has issued a call for renewed protests in many cities of the world on September 30, the anniversary of the first US-sponsored coup that ousted President Aristide in 1991.* Haiti will be demonstrating on that day - so should we!

We need to act now in solidarity with our Haitian sisters and brothers, whose unbreakable spirit, in the face of this genocide, just won't stop. Let us take up this call from Haiti, and make September 30th an international day of outrage against the US-inspired massacres and the trampling of Haiti's sovereignty.

Building on the success of the July 21st coordinated demonstrations

The July 6th massacre by UN troops in Cite Soleil sparked an international campaign, culminating in a day of solidarity actions in 15 cities and five countries on July 21st.

The campaign succeeded in breaking through the media blockade, exposing the massacres, and putting US and UN officials on the defensive. It also brought into being an international network of committed people ready to spring into action in a coordinated way. [See "Wave of Protest" report, sent separately.] Now we need to activate and expand our network - to more cities and countries.

Our call is for each city to organize its own Haiti solidarity activity on or around Friday 9/30 -- to be coordinated as a single worldwide mobilization to support Haiti's struggle for sovereignty, democracy and a just society.

It could be a march, rally, public meeting, vigil, house meeting or civil disobedience - whatever you are able to do -- in support of the following demands:

• Stop the Serial Killings and Massacres of the Poor, in one popular neighborhood after another, by UN troops, Haitian National Police and paramilitary mercenaries under police control.
• Restore the Democratically Elected Government of President Aristide
• Free Fr. Jean-Juste, So' Anne, Prime Minister Neptune - and ALL the Political Prisoners
• End the Brutal US/UN Occupation - Restore Haiti's Sovereignty - Respect the Will of the Haitian People
• Launch an independent inquiry into the February 29, 2004 coup and forced removal of President Aristide - including the role of the US, France and Canada

UN LLAMADO DE SOLIDARIDAD CON HAITI

Protestas Internacionales Coordinadas en diversos lugares para el 30 de Septiembre, 2005

Queridos activistas por Hait',

El golpe de Estado en Hait' - apoyado por los EEUU, la ONU, Francia y Canadá -continúa su sangrienta ofensiva hacia la mayor'a pobre, focalizándose principalmente en los l'deres y en la base social de apoyo del movimiento democrático de base Lavalas.

En estos momentos, la Fondasyon Trant Septanm, una organización haitiana que apoya a las v'ctimas de la represión en Hait', ha hecho un llamado a todos para nuevas jornadas de protesta en distintos lugares en el mundo para el 30 de Septiembre, el aniversario del primer golpe apoyado por los EEUU que derrocó al presidente Aristide en 1991. Hait' estará de protesta ese d'a - nosotros también debiéramos estarlo.

Necesitamos ahora actos de solidaridad con nuestras hermanas y hermanos haitianos, cuyo esp'ritu inquebrantable, de cara a este genocidio, no se detendrá. Tomemos este llamado desde Hait', y hagamos del 30 de septiembre un d'a internacional de repudio en contra de las masacres amparadas por los EEUU y el pisoteo a la soberan'a haitiana.

Construyamos sobre la base del éxito de las protestas coordinadas el 21 de julio

La masacre de las tropas de la ONU en Cité Soleil el 6 de julio, encendió una campa-a internacional, que culminó en un d'a de acciones de solidaridad en 15 ciudades y 5 pa'ses el 21 de julio. La campa-a, tuvo éxito en romper el cerco informativo, en sacar a luz las masacres que están teniendo lugar, y en poner a los oficiales de EEUU y la ONU a la defensiva. Además, dejó armada una red internacional de personas comprometidas prestas a llevar a cabo acciones de forma coordinada. [Ver el informe "Wave of Protest", enviado aparte.] Ahora necesitamos activar y expandir nuestra red -a mas pa'ses y ciudades.

Nuestro llamado es a que cada ciudad organice su propia actividad de solidaridad con Hait' el viernes 30 de Septiembre, o en esos d'as -- para coordinarlas como un único acto de mobilización mundial en apoyo de la lucha del pueblo haitiano por su soberan'a, democracia y por una sociedad justa.

Puede ser una marcha, un piquete, un mit'n público, una vigilia, una asamblea o desobediencia civil - lo que sea que se pueda hacer - en apoyo de las siguientes demandas:

• Poner un alto a las Matanzas en Masa y las Masacres de la ONU, la Polic'a Nacional Haitiana y de los mercenarios paramilitares bajo el control policial, hacia los sectores pobres en los barrios populares.
• Restaurar al gobierno democráticamente elegido del presidente Aristide.
• Libertad para el padre Gerard Jean-Juste, So' Anne, el primer ministro Neptune - y TODOS los prisioneros pol'ticos.
• Fin a la brutal ocupación de la ONU y de los EEUU -- Restaurar la soberan'a haitiana - Respetar la voluntad del pueblo haitiano
