Hurricane PATTY could threaten Haiti next week

Friday Oct 12 UPDATE: The NHC was expecting the tropical cylone in the Bahamas to become disorganized. However, it is still forming and has taken on the name PATTY. The cyclone in this report will now take on the name RAFAEL when it reaches Tropical storm strength, which could happen later today.

HaitiAction.net - Port au Prince, Haiti — It is likely that Haiti could experience the storm swirling about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands next week. Currently named "Invest 98" could develop into the 16th named storm of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season within the next few days. Several forecast models show the storm traveling through the island chain and into the Caribbean. The BAMS — Beta and Advection Model Shallow — has shown this storm to make a direct assault through the southern coastline. The current consensus is that the storm will soon turn north into the trough before the Windward Islands.

Steering currents are more likely to bring PATTY into the Caribbean although some shear could quickly disorganize the convection over the next two days. If PATTY makes it into the Caribbean warmer conditions could see the storm quickly develop strength into a Category 2 Hurricane or stronger if it maintains its current 285º heading over the next four days.

This storm comes at a time of increasing unrest over the tendency of the current Martelly bloc in its incessant attempt to illegally bend Haiti's Constitution to its Neo-Duvalierist agenda. On September 30 tens of thousands of pro-democracy activists took to the streets throughout the country to commemorate the first US engineered Coup d'État of the democratically elected government of President Jean Bertrand Aristide.

The Fanmi Lavalas activists waved red cards as a show of "no confidence" in the Martelly administration's ability to represent the wishes of the People of Haiti.
