©2004 Haiti Information Project - At the morgue. These two men were killed by the police. The police lied to the press saying that these demonstrators were shooting at them. As the march neared the National Palace, police fired tear gas grenades at the peaceful marchers without warning. There were no weapons displayed or fired by the demonstrators as reported by police.Thirty seconds after police used the tear gas, they fired real bullets through demonstrators with their rifles. The demonstrators had shown no weapons. Neither had they thrown any rocks at the police. |

Brazilian soldier wounded in Haiti slum raid Port au Prince, Haiti (HIP) Brazilian troops took the lead in a daytime raid today of the pro-Aristide slum of Bel Air. One Brazilian soldier was wounded in the foot by gunfire and residents report at least five Haitians were killed in the military action. The Haitian National Police (PNH) reportedly arrested 34 persons following the incursion and took them to an undisclosed location for questioning. Oct 9 2004
