Haiti braces for deadly floods from Hurricane Dean, headed for St. Lucia and Martinique

HaitiAction.net - Hurricane Dean - category 2 - is headed straight for the Saint Lucia Channel between the Windward Islands of St. Lucia and Martinique. Currently there is no visible eye. It is expected to gain strength in the warmer waters of the Caribbean. Dean could become very dangerous Category 4 Hurricane that is currently forecast to hit Jamaica with Hurricane force winds as it brushes along the south coast of the island.

Deadly floods are likely in Southern Haiti similar to Hurricane Ernesto of 2006 when 25,000 families were evacuated from Martissant. Last year, Ernesto was on a similar trajectory but suddenly veered north, taking it into Haiti. The storm's center is expected to pass very near to St. Lucia and Martinique overnight, according to the the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.
